A Portuguese man who had been sentenced to 11 years in jail for raping a 14-year-old girl in England was finally arrested this week in Brazil.
António Alves, 44, fled to Brazil just a few days before the trial in England in 2013.
He had started a new life in Pernambuco and had even married a Brazilian woman.
The case dates back to 2010, when Alves was accused of pretending to be 15 on a social network to set up a date with a young girl.
He is then believed to have raped the girl in a car, though he always defended she willingly engaged in sexual intercourse with him.
Alves was on Interpol’s list of wanted people.
