Police tell officers bras could  be dangerous

Women police officers have been instructed not to wear under-wired bras – because the metal could cause extra harm if they are shot.

Essex Police has written to all their female officers urging them to buy sensible underwear from M&S instead.

In a letter the force explains that any metal parts of a bra could cause extra damage if they’re shot in the line of duty.

The letter reads: “Although there is no such thing as a bullet-proof bra, a good comfortable fitted non-wired bra from a retailer like Marks & Spencer would help prevent ballistic damage.

“Body armour has to be close fitting and you should wear a bra that does not contain metal objects.

“You should not wear underwired bras as the metal can be driven into the skin causing more damage.”
