Police carrying out a major operation in the Portimão area of Encosta do Lagar were alerted suddenly to another crime in the region in which a taxi driver was attacked by a phoney client, who snatched a gold necklace and left his victim with head injuries.
The thief, aged 29, was also found to be in possession of another piece of jewellery as well as two mobile phones and €70.
In the principal operation carried out by the PSP police, connected with disturbances which involved gunshots in a family ‘war’ in thelocality of Avenida 25 de Abril, a house search revealed a number of firearms including a hunting rifle of 12 mm and a 6.35mm calibre semi-automatic pistol.
A 40-year-old man was detained for illegal possession of firearms and ordered by the court to remain under house arrest.
