Police record 20% rise in Internet scamming in 2022

Portugal’s public security police (PSP) has received more than 36,000 complaints of computer and communications fraud over the past four years, with this type of crime having increased by 20% in 2022, a year in which the “Olá Pai, Olá Mãe” scam stood out. As part of European Safer Internet Day, which is being celebrated today, the PSP said last year it recorded 11,200 crimes of computer and communications fraud, 20% more than in 2021, when there were 9,349 reported.
