Police question man in Madeleine case

A man was questioned over the disappearance of Madeleine McCann after he was spotted at a petrol station with his step-daughter, who resembles the missing girl.

On August 30, a concerned member of the public had seen Jon Hazlehurst with his eight year old step-daughter Lauren at a petrol station in Kingsbridge, Devon and proceeded to take down the car registration plate after thinking the girl was Madeleine.

They were both at home when police officers arrived and asked them to accompany them to the police station.

Jon Hazlehurst, a fire protection officer from Kingsbridge, was so surprised he thought it was a prank. He said the police were very polite and he understood that they had to follow up the lead.

They were later released from Kingsbridge police station after they were identified and it was proved Lauren was not Madeleine McCann.

Madeleine McCann disappeared in May 2007 while on holiday with her family in Praia da Luz.

She was a few days from her fourth birthday when she disappeared and would now be six years old.
