Police protest

More than 8,000 PSP police officers took to the streets of Lisbon on May 21 in the largest ever protest held by this national security force.

Peixoto Rodrigues, president of one police union, said: “We want partners to be included in medical plans, retirement at 55 or after 36 years of service, salaries to be linked to years of service and a risk subsidy which was promised to us.”

If these requests are not met, a second protest is to take place on June 8, where the PSP will place their caps on the floor outside the Prime Minister’s official residence, the Palácio de São Bento.
