Police patrols boosted for festive season

Portugal’s PSP police have launched operation ‘Festas Seguras 2015’, which will see more agents patrolling shopping areas and accident blackspots across the country over the festive season.

The idea is to “avoid and detect illegal behaviour that could put the population’s security at risk”.

Drunk-driving, speeding and driving while on the phone are some of the no-no’s police will be watching for, as well as people in possession of “illegal weapons, drugs and stolen goods”.

The operation launched on Monday (December 14) will continue until January 4.

Homeowners away for Christmas can also ask the PSP to make routine patrols in their areas to help avoid burglaries.
