Police investigate rape of 19-year-old woman in Faro

PJ police are investigating the rape of a 19-year-old woman near the Calouste Gulbenkian avenue in Faro.

The crime happened late at night around two weeks ago, according to national tabloid Correio da Manhã.

The young woman was apparently dragged by a man to a nearby secluded street where the rape was committed.

Following the horrific incident, the woman went to the Faro Hospital emergency room which is close to where the crime happened.

PJ police were called and are now investigating.

CM adds that police are treating the investigation as separate from other similar incidents.

At the end of July, a 21-year-old Polish woman escaped an alleged rape attack at the entrance of a Faro building. The attack happened in Pontes de Marchil near Forum Algarve.

A month earlier, two women also escaped rape attempts – one in the Penha area of Faro, and the other on Rua Vasco da Gama in the neighbouring town of Olhão.
