Police investigate new body in macabre Portuguese body-parts mystery

The discovery of a dead man in Portugal is now being linked to the macabre events that played out in Leipzig, Germany, last week involving the body parts of a Portuguese woman, discovered in a canal.

Investigators are working on the theory that the dead man – found in Lisbon on April 19 – may have killed Lídia Maria da Cruz, whose torso was found in the Elster Canal last week (click here).

What appears certain is that da Cruz was murdered in the man’s apartment, explains TVI news.

Dubbed this far by investigators as Jorge P, he is believed to have been 38 years old, and a friend of both da Cruz and her estranged boyfriend.

The couple, both singly and together, had stayed from time to time with Jorge P after falling on difficult times in Germany, explain newspapers.

After the last known sighting of da Cruz, Jorge P. also appears to have disappeared, turning up dead in Portugal 10 days later.

“German police are not yet confirming they have solved the case”, national tabloid Correio da Manhã explains, but it is certainly looking that way.

Meantime, da Cruz’s body remains in Germany, as part of the ongoing investigation.
