Police fire  into the air to  disperse crowd

A small number of Sporting fans, unhappy with their football team’s performances of late, stormed the club offices in Lisbon after their game against Maritimo on Sunday.

There were clashes with police and in an effort to disperse the 200 angry fans, shots were fired into the air by the police. Superintendent Costa Ramos of the PSP said: “The fans expressed their displeasure. The police had to take measures to protect the physical integrity of players, staff and even themselves.

“Reinforcements were requested when the situation turned ugly and stones were hurled at the officers.”
