Vila do Bispo GNR discovered a cannabis plantation in an isolated zone of Barão de São Miguel recently. In total, authorities seized 184 feet of the plant, detaining a German man who was held responsible for its cultivation.
The plants, hidden among the natural vegetation of the zone, were very well tendered, some reaching almost a metre high, although they were not yet ready to be picked. The plantation was discovered during routine patrols, undertaken by the GNR, in the serras of the Algarve, which frequently result in apprehensions of this kind.
Authorities detained the 55-year-old German man suspected of growing the plant, who lives in a farmstead around 200 metres from the fields where the plants were found. The suspect made an appearance at Lagos Court, but was later released and ordered to make weekly appearances before police.
