Two young men were arrested and another was identified by police for stealing the handbag of a 60-year-old woman in Olhão last week, causing her to fall and “hit her head violently on the pavement”. It happened at around 7.30pm on Thursday, August 4.
The woman was walking near the João Braz neighbourhood when the trio ran by her and snatched her handbag.
“Instinctively, the woman grabbed it too which led her to fall on the ground and hit her head violently on the pavement,” wrote national tabloid Correio da Manhã.
The young men ran away and left her on the ground. Despite the “violent impact, she did not lose consciousness”, adds CM.
PSP police were called and not even 15 minutes later, they had already tracked down the three suspected culprits.
The two oldest, aged 17 and 19, were arrested while the younger one, 14, was identified.
They are all said to live in Olhão.
The victim, also an Olhão resident, received medical assistance on the spot and did not need to be taken to hospital.
