Two Brazilian men were arrested by the GNR on suspicion of robbery in the centre of Olhos d’Água in the early hours of August 6.
According to a GNR spokesman, the men, who were driving a red Renault Clio at the time they were arrested, are suspected of robberies in Oura, Montechoro, Areias de São João and Santa Eulália in Albufeira.
The operating method of the suspects was to drive slowly along the road to spot a victim before snatching their handbag and speeding off.
The pair were being investigated for several weeks by the criminal investigation branch of Albufeira GNR prior to their arrest. Following the arrest, the men were identified and released pending trial, while the Renault Clio was confiscated along with mobile telephones, a knife, four doses of cocaine and money in pounds sterling.
The police are unable to confirm if the suspects are connected with the robbery of a British tourist in Vilamoura on July 30.
