Police bust Faro gang of “robbers and drug dealers”

A gang of six people who police believe dealt drugs, mugged people and robbed grocery stores was arrested in Faro on Tuesday (October 25).

The gang worked in two groups, one focusing on the drug racket and the other on the thefts, says national tabloid Correio da Manhã.

Drugs were dealt mostly in Faro and Olhão though muggings and robberies were also carried out in Almancil, Moncarapacho and Loulé, where the group would target pedestrians and small establishments such as grocery stores, CM adds.

PSP police seized 100 doses of cocaine and 60 of heroine in four house searches, as well as a telescopic sight, a gun replica, six laptops, and a variety of electronic equipment the criminal ring is believed to have stolen.

The alleged gang members, aged 20 to 45 and including one woman, were to be heard in court. Whether they will await trial in freedom or preventive custody has not yet been revealed.
