Police break up ‘party’ of 300 young people on Sesimbra beach

In what has been a very slow news weekend – with thankfully no major fires yet breaking out despite exceptionally hot weather – a ‘party’ of 300 young people on Galherão beach in Sesimbra was broken up on Saturdaty evening by police on the basis that the gathering was ‘against pandemic health regulations’.

As comments over social media pointed out, gatherings (and parties even, click here) are allowed at vaccination centres, and the country’s airports (where a strike by SEF border control operatives has caused predictable bottlenecks of frustrated passengers); why was this one, in the open air any different?

Police cited “the festive atmosphere”, the music and “the consumption of alcoholic drinks”.

The ‘party’ was broken up long before nightfall.
