A 34-year-old man is suspected of having deceived several people in a scheme to attract investors to franchised mushroom production companies. In a statement, Portugal’s PJ criminal police said that the man was arrested in Guarda following investigations beginning last year that “have made it possible to clarify the contours of qualified fraud and malicious insolvency (…) The scheme consisted of attracting investors to create companies franchised to a company set up by the suspect, dedicated to the production of mushrooms, and included the promise, never materialised, of providing training and equipment”. According to the PJ, with this scheme the man made himself around €100,000, and then declared insolvency. He has been bailed in the sum of €50,000 and obliged to surrender his passport.
