PJ police have announced the arrest of a 23-year-old man who is suspected of starting 11 forest fires in São Brás de Alportel between March and September.
The police force says there is “strong evidence” suggesting the man, who had applied to become a firefighter, had “intentionally started” the fires.
It adds that the blazes were swiftly put out thanks to the “quick action” of local firefighters.
