A 67-year-old man has been arrested in Portimão under “strong suspicions” of having sexually abused an eight-year-old girl.
The crime is believed to have happened at the end of 2019 inside the victim’s home, PJ police said in a statement.
The suspect used the fact that he was a friend of the family and close to the girl to carry out “significant sexual acts with the child”, the police force said.
Despite the severity of the alleged crime, the man – said to be a construction worker – was released after appearing before a judge. He has been ordered to report regularly to the local police station.
