Police alert employers to need to take photographic inventories of gold and jewellery

A case of an employee slowly but surely plundering her employer’s stock of gold and jewellery to the tune of €57,000 has caused police to send out a warning. Anyone with precious items should take a photographic inventory so that police can track them down when they are called in to do so. In this case, in Estoril, Cascais, agents have recovered “the majority of the gold taken”.

The employee, a 49-year-old woman with no criminal history, has been charged with theft and released pending a court hearing.

Her employer is understood to have been an elderly lady who did not notice items disappearing, bit by bit over the years.
