Prime minister António Costa has replied to a question on the location of Lisbon’s new airport saying he is waiting for Luís Montenegro, the new PSD leader, to say which option suits his party best. He stressed that 2/3rds of parliament has to be ‘on board’ in votes on ‘large infrastructures’, thus the PS needs to find consensus before anything can move forwards. The question was posed during today’s lunchtime debate of the Luso-Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Lisbon. The long-advocated airport was to have been sited in Montijo, but various obstacles have littered its path, not least the fact that it is a flood plain, right next door to a breeding ground for migratory birds.
