PM António Costa visited two hypermarkets in Lisbon this morning, with a considerable press posse and gaggle of retail industry dignitaries, to ensure “prices are right” now that 0% IVA has come into effect on a number of essential foodstuffs. He told his audience the government is focused on acting “on the whole chain” – “because if we lower the IVA at the butcher’s, but production costs continue to rise, the producer ends up passing this price increase and, therefore, the final price to the client increases again…”
