PRIME MINISTER José Sócrates has thrown his support behind food hygiene and economic activities agency, ASAE, following weeks of bad press and heavy criticism.
Last week, President Cavaco Silva appealed to the agency to be more reasonable and Algarve MP Mendes Bota compared it to PIDE, a political police force that existed during Salazar’s dictatorship. Sócrates said: “What ASAE does is defend consumers and an economy that does not want a parallel economy”. He added that ASAE was here to stay.
