PM ‘hopeful’ that German court’s block on bazooka funding is shortlived

Portugal’s PM stressed over the weekend he is hopeful the block on EU ‘resilience and recovery’ funding – caused by the German Constitutional Court – is short lived. “We need this fundamental vitamin to restart our economy and recover employment”, he said when he met journalists during the vaccination drive in Odivelas. Elsewhere, the Spectator has suggested the ‘bazooka’ (as this funding has been described in the past) actually needs to be ‘much bigger’. Thanks to the ‘bungled vaccination campaign’ Europe is “now facing a third wave of the virus, pushing the tourism-dependent South into an even deeper recession” says the news magazine, adding that the help to countries is “also taking far too long”.
