PM calls for ‘independent investigation’ into Gaza hospital blast

Portugal’s prime minister, António Costa, has called for an “independent investigation so that there is no doubt as to who actually fired the missile” on a hospital in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday which killed hundreds of people. Commenting on the information that it might have been an Islamic Jihad missle, he accepted that this was “now a fairly well-established idea” – recommending more silence and diplomacy in the face of the escalating conflict. Talking in parliament, he stressed calls for a ceasefire from the UN, and the importance of getting humanitarian aid through to Palestinian people.
