PM accuses Cavaco of “fuelling right wing frenzy”

Portugal’s prime minister António Costa has reacted to the brutal speech over the weekend by former president Cavaco Silva, accusing the octogenarian of fuelling the right wing’s “frenzy” to provoke an artificial political crisis, interrupting the government’s path to economic recovery. Mr Costa was speaking to journalists as he entered a lunch commemorating the 25th anniversary of the opening of Expo 98. He went so far as to accuse Cavaco of trying to deflect people’s attentions from the “benefits of this economic recovery” before they have time to “feel it – as they fully have a right to”…
