A CASHIER, who worked for the supermarket chain Plus, was shot dead at the weekend. The incident happened in Sesimbra, on the outskirts of Lisbon. The worker, aged 35, was shot in the head from close range by a member of a gang that had broken into the supermarket.
The gang, consisting of five men, two armed with guns, broke into the store at 10pm, an hour after closing, while six members of staff were stacking shelves for the next day. Prior to entering the store, the gang had attacked the security guard, hitting him over the head with the butt of a rifle, and then dragged him inside the supermarket to a cash desk. They approached the worker and took him to the head office, demanding he open the safe. When he claimed he did not know the code, they shot him in the head and left the building, reportedly taking hundreds of euros with them. He was taken to the Hospital Garcia de Orta in Almada where he later died from the gun shot.
