“Around the World in 80 Minutes … ish”
After a two-year hiatus, this year’s Play in the Parque is back. The first Play in the Parque was performed in 2006 and since then it has become an extremely popular annual event in the Algarvian calendar.
This year’s show is entitled “Around the World in 80 Minutes … ish” and will be performed on Friday, July 1 in the usual idyllic forest setting of Parque de Merendas near Barão de São João.
Written and produced by Aljezur International School, this year’s cast includes over 70 children and adults from the school and the local community. Along with the countless volunteers who offer their time and energy backstage, this diverse group of people come together once a year to create a fantastic fun-filled evening of family entertainment.
The lead roles this year are played by A level Drama students Floris Jones, Pepijn Jones and Gil Costa Lobo who play Phileas Fogg, Sham the Shaman and Passpartout. Several teachers and parents of Aljezur International will also be making surprise appearances as characters such as the Spice Girls, Santa Claus and Freddie Mercury.
The audience is invited to come to Parque de Merendas from 4.30pm for the barbecue and the show will start at 6.30pm. Audience members are advised to bring a blanket or chair to sit on.
