The water company Águas do Algarve announced this week a plan to re-structure and improve the area of the Lagoa dos Salgados lake between Silves and Albufeira.
The plan will divide the lake into two distinct areas and create small islands, a dike and deepen existing ditches.
The idea is to add to the preservation of this protected zone, which harbours around 150 different species of plant, animal and birdlife.
The work is expected to last 120 days and represents an estimated investment of €1.2 million by the water company.
