Searches taking place in Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra and Faro
PJ police are carrying out searches this Tuesday at several offices of the National Medical Emergency Institute (INEM) as part of an investigation related to “irregularities in staff management,” a police source has told Lusa news agency.
The source added that the investigation is being led by the National Unit of Combating Corruption (UNCC) and is also looking into alleged irregularities related to the use of INEM vehicles.
INEM offices in Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra and Faro are said to be among those being searched.
The operation was carried out following an anonymous tip, the source also said, adding that PJ inspectors are collecting documents at the several offices being searched.
In a statement to the press, INEM has confirmed that the searches are ongoing and added that they were prompted by anonymous tips related to “matters of human resources and public procurement.”
The institute has also confirmed that no official suspects (arguidos) have been named so far.
