PJ no longer investigating death of woman

THE CASE of an Australian woman who was found dead at her home in São Brás de Alportel on March 20, by a neighbour, is no longer being investigated by the Polícia Judiciária (See The Resident, March 28).

A source told The Resident that the woman was Jacinta Dawn Rees, however, the Australian embassy had not been given permission by the Foreign Ministry to confirm this.

A spokesman for the PJ told The Resident: “This case is no longer with the Polícia Judiciária. It is now in the hands of the Ministério Público, the Public Ministry in Faro.”

A spokesman at the Public Ministry told The Resident: “An autopsy was requested to investigate the cause of death, which is also used for life insurance purposes. When the report arrives, it will be communicated to the embassy.”
