PJ lead new searches on Porto Jewish Community

PJ police have today led new searches on residencies and law offices connected with the Porto Jewish Community, in their investigations into suspicions of corruption in the concession of Portuguese nationality for descendants of Portuguese Sephardic Jews. This is the case better known as the Abramovich probe – as it was the concession of Portuguese nationality to Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich that opened this particular can of worms. The Porto Jewish Community has since ceased handling nationality claims – maintaining the case that began with the arrest of its spiritual leader Daniel Litvak is a  witchhunt. A statement from the PJ today said the inquiry is investigating “facts likely to fit with crimes of corruption, document falsification, money laundering, fiscal fraud and drug-trafficking”.
