PJ police have dismantled an international drug ring which is believed to have smuggled cocaine into Europe through the south of Portugal, including the Algarve.
Four men, aged 35 to 55, were arrested this week in what was described as a “complex police operation” called ‘Rota Certa’ (Right Route).
The drug ring was made up of people of “many nationalities” who would settle in to hotels and holiday homes in the south of Portugal and use rental vehicles to do their deeds.
Said PJ, their ultimate plan was to smuggle around 147 kilos of “high purity” cocaine into the country.
The four men were already in PJ police’s sights and are due to appear before a judge.
