At least 300 people found themselves buying goods online that they never wanted, or indeed saw. The scheme, set up by a couple described as in their early 20s, ‘foreign and operating from Portugal’, appears to have spent around €40,000 of other people’s money since last January. It was finally brought down by the PJ’s national unit for the combat of cybercrime, thanks to collaboration with SIBS (the online payments network), UNICRE (Portuguese financial institution) and El Corte Inglés.
