Pitch renovation forces move

SC Olhanense will play their next two home games at the Olhão Municipal Stadium as urgent remedial work is carried out to the playing surface at the José Arcanjo Stadium.

The deplorable state of the pitch has seen teams struggling to control the ball and play any semblance of football.

The two games in question are this Sunday against Ferreiras and Sunday, December 16 when Redondense are the visitors. Both games kick-off at 3pm at the well-appointed Municipal Stadium, with its 4G Astro-turf pitch, which is situated approximately one kilometre north of the EN125 on the N2-6.

Last weekend, Olhanense’s poor away form continued as they lost 2-0 in Lisbon against league leaders Casa Pia.

With top scorer Stevy Okitokandjo and Lucas Salinas ruled out through injury, manager Ivo Soares gave a debut to new signing 24-year-old Yuran Lopes.

The tall defender scored the winning goal for Armacenenses when they beat Olhanense last season. Casa Pia took the lead after 14 minutes through Jean Victor and João Coito added the second five minutes after the interval.

Olhanense even contrived to miss a penalty in the closing minutes of another disappointing away performance. Sunday’s opponents Ferreiras were promoted from the Algarve regional league this year but are struggling in the relegation zone of Campeonato de Portugal Division D with just one win in 13 games.
