The Algarve’s Pirates American-style football team won their first game on Saturday, February 9, in Mexilhoeira Grande.
The Pirates outscored the Sta. Iria de Azóia Wolves 33-15 in only their third game as a Portugal League team. The home team scored a 3-point field goal in the first quarter. The Wolves rallied to go ahead 7-3, but the Algarve team recovered their momentum and began the steady march to victory in the second quarter, which included a 35 yard touchdown pass and two rushing touchdowns.
The Pirates’ next game is in Lisbon against the formidable Lisboa Navigators on March 10.
