Pink Ladies return to Silves in September

Competition is in aid of Algarve Oncology Association

This year’s Pink Ladies Day is taking place on September 7 at the Silves Golf Course, in Vila Fria, on the outskirts of the town, from 8.30am to 2pm. Organisers are looking to exceed funds raised in previous years in aid of a worthy cause – the Algarve Oncology Association (AOA).

A total of 120 women, members and guests of Serra de Monchique Golf Club, have already registered to play a Pairs Better Ball. There will be prizes for the top six pairs plus numerous nearest the pin and longest drive prizes.

All proceeds will be donated to the AOA, a much-needed service in the Algarve. Mobile units travel to smaller towns and screen people across the length and breadth of the Algarve. This enables earlier diagnosis and, thereby, access to treatment for various forms of cancer including breast, respiratory and skin.

Julie Barrett, Wendy Emrich and Karen Huxtable, The Pink Ladies Team 2023, say:It would be fantastic if the well-known names in golf and local businesses were to support this great day, and a well deserving Portuguese charity. Pestana have kindly offered us courtesy of the course at Silves. The entry fee for Pestana members is €25 and non-Pestana members €35.

“We are looking for more offers of sponsorship or prizes for the event, to support a very worthy cause. All sponsors will be listed on the back of the score card for advertising purposes and to recognise the sponsors’ generosity.”

Pink Ladies Day was founded in 2018 when 80 ladies played golf at Pestana’s Vale da Pinta Golf Course in Lagoa, raising €4,000. In 2019, the venue was changed to Pestana’s Silves Golf Course, when 100 ladies played in the sun all dressed in pink, raising a fantastic €7,170. In 2020 and 2021, smaller fields played due to the Covid restrictions, but in 2022, they were back with 100 ladies raising over €4,000.
