Portuguese supermarket chain Pingo Doce is seeking people keen to become partners in outlets away from urban centres.
The kind of people in mind should own land that would “pose a convenient solution for shoppers”, with the kind of space that a Pingo Doce outlet normally requires, director of the group’s operations Carlos Araújo told Dinheiro Vivo this week.
They would also need to be keen to run the shop themselves.
As for investment required, this would vary according to the work involved, Araújo told the business publication.
“Costs would be shared between Pingo Doce and the partner, who would be responsible for the investment in infrastructures” as well as the getting of any municipal licences – while Pingo Doce would be responsible for equipping the outlet and getting approval from the Ministry of the Economy.
Partners would benefit from “advantageous credit conditions,” added Araújo, as the business has an agreement with a banking institution.
The model is not a franchise, Araújo explained, as partners would not have to pay any form of royalty and the agreements that are envisaged would enable them to rent their investment out.
