Pilgrimage to Fátima

A young girl holds her candle during the procession of light, in honour of Our Lady of Fátima at Fátima Sanctuary in Cova da Iria in the centre of Portugal. On May 13, 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three children Lucia de Jesus, aged 10 and her cousins, Francisco, aged nine and Jacinta Marto, aged seven, while they tended their sheep in Fátima to tell them the world must pray for the conversion of sinners and peace. Ever since, Fátima has drawn millions of pilgrims every year. Photo: Paulo Cunha/LUSA
