A 1,000-km trip on horseback named “In The Hands of The Gods” ending in the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela, has been organised by local resident Jessica Soames in an attempt to sidestep modern-day technology and support eco-tourism.
So far, the journey, which will begin on August 13, will be taken on solely by Jessica and her horse. However, she told the Algarve Resident that anyone interested in the adventure is more than welcome to tag along.
The route, which begins in Tavira and is based on a pilgrimage conducted hundreds of years ago, will take the “pilgrims” all the way through the southern, centre and northern regions of Portugal until finally arriving in Galicia, at the end of the predicted four-week long trip.
“I’ve been riding horses all my life but it is the first time I will be travelling such a long distance,” she said.
Jessica added that she is also hoping to garner enough sponsors to aid the Refúgio dos Burros (see article on this page).
A Facebook page has been created with the same name as the trip, where those interested can contact Jessica and find out more about the event.
