THE WINNERS of Portugal’s young new artistic photographic talent are currently on display at the Cultural Centre in Belém (CCB).
The award-winning BES-Photo, sponsored by Banco Espírito Santo, focuses on four photographers that produced outstandingly original work in 2004. The four winners were selected by João Fernandes, director of the Serralves Museum in Porto, Sérgio Mah, director of Lisboaphoto, Emília Tavares, photography keeper at the Chiado Museum, Alexandra Pinho, from BES, and Delfim Sardo, exhibition director at the CCB.
During the first phase of the selection process, the photographers were invited to show their recent unedited works. In the second phase, one overall winner will be selected by a second group of judges comprising Régis Durand, director of Jeu de Paume in Paris, Rosa Olivares, director of Madrid-based magazine EXIT, and Luísa Costa Dias, director of Lisbon City Photographic Archive.
The four photographers’ collections on display at the CCB could be in line to win 15,000 euros. These are Helena Almeida (Pés no Chão, Cabeça no Céu), João Tabarra (No Meio do Caminho Tinha Uma Pedra), Nuno Cera (Dark Forces) and Vitor Pomar (O Meu Campo de Batalha). The exhibition will run until February 27. For further information, please contact 213 612 400.
