Police end jail revolt

A revolt by al-Qaeda-linked prisoners ended after police stormed a maximum security prison in the Philippines. Some 22 prisoners – including three top leaders of the militant Abu Sayyaf group – were reportedly killed. “Terrorism will never win in the Philippines,” President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said. “We shall ensure this incident does not happen again.” Troops fired tear gas and scaled the walls of the four-storey building before overpowering the inmates.
