Pet owners struggle to pay vet bills

Veterinary clinics and hospitals in Portugal are accepting payment by instalments to prevent animals from going without their vaccines or food due to the economic difficulties their owners are facing. Bruno Rolo, from the National Veterinary Doctors Union (SNMV), told Lusa news agency that vet clinics are being affected as more pet owners are finding it harder to pay for consultations, and are either behind on payments or are forced to cancel appointments due to their financial problems. SNMV members fear animal abandonment will increase due to the crisis.
