APAA, Association for Protection of Animals Algarve, together with Pet Park are running a joint re-homing programme.
‘Rafa’ recently came to Pet Park, having been dumped at a very young age. Not being chipped and despite notices trying to track the owners, no one claimed him. He is, in fact, a mix breed, but his behaviour and breed are predominantly that of a German Shepherd. He is almost a year old and, being snipped, he needs a home.
His current foster parent, Caroline England, says: “He is a beautiful dog, well-behaved, good around the house.”
Caroline owns and runs a busy Pet Camp or Hotel for dogs and cats in the countryside near Mexilhoeira Grande. She is occasionally able to take in a “stray” or “abandoned” animal. “German Shepherds are a special breed. Healthy, loyal and strong. They are very intelligent. They need a person who knows how to handle them. Larger breeds are often strong willed, and determined. They need owners who understand and have the time and patience to train and bond with them.”
Also on the re-homing programme is 10-year-old ‘Dusty’, our beautiful dustbin girl. She’s loving and good natured. ‘Ela’, our foxy lady, is still waiting too; very good with other dogs, a lovely temperament, easy going, around 11 years old. Older dogs are so happy to be re-homed. They’ve been around a bit, know the score. ‘Lilly’ is a bit of a loner, but loving and loyal; perhaps would suit an older person.
Some good news from Caroline: ‘Poppy’ was homed and so was ‘Daisy’. Every dog has its day, as they say. Maybe that special home for ‘Rafa’ is yours… Contact Caroline at [email protected]
Sad news: APAA president Jenny Clarke’s husband, Graham, passed away quietly on Saturday. He was greatly loved and bravely fought illness. Jenny and close family were with Graham. They would like to thank all their friends who kindly sent condolences.
APAA Posh Tea Street Party: Sunday, June 5 at 3pm, to celebrate HM The Queen’s 70th Platinum Jubilee in Jackie’s Garden, slightly north of Portimão. On sale will be sweet and savoury bakes. Book now! Call Jenny on 919 041 903 or email [email protected]
