Pet Corner – Just one look, that’s all it took

… as the song goes. When there’s nowhere else to turn and the loneliness monster moves in, where does one look?

Social life suddenly reduced to TV, shopping, TV, paying bills. Fun life, isn’t it? Just four walls and thou. A furry, four-pawed friend will fill a huge gap. No, not just any gap, ‘The Gap’. A dog is a man’s best friend. No one else around? Not a soul to talk to? Woof! Abandoned animal shelters have a wide variety of abandonees/dumped dogs.

From the dog’s mouth

Habit is a pattern of behaviour. Really? We are like that too, canines that is. We are your silent companion. You see, we really do “get it”. Not only creatures of habit, like humans, we are able to adapt to whatever is happening. Get the lead … walkies! Bowl … din-dins! Oh no, not the bath! Yikes!

Soft bed, warm blankets, somewhere to flop, one eye open, one ear cocked. Just a quick nap. But one dog does not fit all. One dog, one master or mistress. That’s how it always has been and will be. Good family friend, good with other animals. One look. Just one. That’s all it will take.

The muttiest, most flea-bitten, strangest, silliest, doesn’t matter. That’ll be the one. Human that is! Dogs are four-pawed versions of humans. They react and bond. Fit like a glove. Read each other’s minds. Signalling, yawn, scratching.

How many people say that pets and humans start to look alike? There must be a reason. Take a stroll and look us up! Bring a treat.
