Cat and Dog at Christmas
For life

Pet Corner – Des res – from one room to duplex

Indeed! Cats. Felines. Feral. This is not about cats in a flap. This is a true story of how ‘Ferragudo João’ and ‘Cat Woman Zélia’ came to blows. Having nurtured a colony of cats privately, João had come to the point where he needed help.

APAA’s Zélia Santos was ready to listen and lend a helping hand. The Association for Protection of Animals Algarve have many cat colonies under their watchful eye. Ready, willing and enabling all manner of people from all walks of life to help handle the high-rising cat figures.

Of course, Zélia has had years of commitment to the feral furry felines. The argument was whether the little creatures would take to more stylish, modern living.

Having been used to a one-roomed house, suddenly an apartment-style home was provided. Clean lines, friendly duplex. “They’ll never take to it!” he remonstrated, a wise fisherman and animal lover.

Whilst João was remonstrating, Zélia had slipped a new lodging into the cordoned off area in Ferragudo. The felines were over the moon. Squirming and meowing in a cacophony of pleasure. He had to give in!

Jenny Clarke, APAA’s president, presided over the two quietly, bringing their attention to the fact that all the cats had settled in nicely. The old lodging was still good enough for expansion, a facelift perhaps. But proved a point.
