Chaps and chapesses sometimes go AWOL. APAA, the Association for Protection of Animals Algarve, had a recent occurrence where a canine had been reported missing.
Absent without leave! The young chap wandered off, miraculously appearing at the grand portal of APAA’s charity shop in Silves. The girls immediately took the young lad in.
President Jenny arrived on the scene: “He appeared to be castrated, but, on closer inspection, it appeared his balls hadn’t dropped. So, he was a lot younger than we thought.” Overnight stay? B&B? Pet Park? “Well, the problem is, if he is that young, is he vaccinated?” Jenny has a chip reader. “No chip! No info, owners, etc. Can’t have him mixing with other dogs.”
Luckily, Lisa Dowling’s Facebook pages had his mug shot. Owner recognised her dog. Result? Happy reunion. The point of this shaggy-dog story is, if you have a pet and you love it enough, when it gets lost or goes AWOL, its owners can be traced quickly and effectively. “Chip” is the word! At the municipal vet, it costs about €13. A private vet consult will charge around €25 (best price). Still APAA did their bit. Chipped in, so to speak.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch … Anita has been checking out various establishments for the next ‘Pop-Up’ season. August on its way out, September now looming … autumn, winter, then Christmas. It may be that we are all, finally, looking forward to a happier Christmas and New Year, after Brexit problems and Covid. Unhappily, some have lost their partners and loved ones. A New Year ahead and hopefully new beginnings for all our readers.
The first Pop-Up will be held at O Tasco in Sra do Verde, Portimão, on Thursday, September 22, between 12pm and 3pm. The next one will be in October at O Pescador in Figueira (Mexilhoeira Grande). Watch this space for confirmation of venues and dates.
A note from Anita: “Please, can we have some of your unwanted Christmas tree deccies, ornaments, etc. We are looking forward to a great ‘Pop-Up’ season ahead. Christmas decorations and unwanted gifts are always popular at our Pop-Ups! The money raised is for the APAA SNiP (Spaying and Neutering) programme.”
Recently, a bunch of puppies were up for grabs. A couple have been rehomed. If you are still wondering whether to, or not to, contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 918 706 651. They were mostly all black with a couple of goldies, some straight, some curly haired. Maybe one for you.
