People ‘recovered from Covid’ to receive vaccines in 2nd phase

People who have recovered from Covid-19 are to receive vaccines during the ongoing 2nd phase of vaccinations. Vaccine coordinator Henrique Gouveia e Melo explains the policy change as due to the fact that Portugal is receiving more doses now than previously expected. Initially Covid survivors were told they would not need to be vaccinated “as they were already in some way immunised”. Now they are to be treated ‘like any other citizen’. Vaccine policy for people who have had Covid-19 changes is not uniform. For instance, in the US, people who have recovered are seen to require only one shot of the two-shot vaccines (as their immune responses have been found to be “even better than a never-infected person’s after two”). In the Philippines however, Covid ‘survivors’ are being vaccinated “immediately after recovery”, with expert Dr. Rontgene Solante telling CNN: “Remember, when you recover from this infection, you may have the natural antibody coming from that recovery, but that antibody may not last long, so you can still have a reinfection”…
