As the world wakes up to the activities of one Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old member of the inelligence wing of the Massachusetts Air National Guard – suspected of leaking hundreds of US intelligence documents over gaming channel Discord (which may have seriously compromised Ukraine’s plans for a spring offensive) – Portuguese newspapers report that Teixeira is a ‘lusodescendant’; his grandfather having emigrated to the United States from the Beira region. Another ‘Portuguese’ link to the scandal comes in some of the material that has bobbed to the surface which suggests US intelligence believes UN secretary-general, António Guterres, “too ready to accommodate Russian interests”. Tabloid Correio da Manhã explains: “At issue are alleged concessions to convince Russia to reactivate the exportation of cereals from Ukraine even if this meant working with sanctioned Russian individuals or entities”.
