AROUND 2,000 pensioners marched through the streets of Lisbon on Saturday calling for a new deal from the government.
The organisers said the demonstration was a form of complaining about the deterioration in the National Health System (SNS) and the value of state pensions.
The demonstrators marched a kilometre between Praça do Comércio and Praça da Figueira blowing whistles and waving placards calling for Sócrates to resign.
“It should be remembered that pensioners make up one third of the poor in this country,” said one Communist leader.
