Murpi – the National Confederation of Pensioners and the Elderly – is leading a demonstration today in Lisbon against the rising cost of living. The pensioners involved are demanding a minimum increase of €70 for all pensions. Marching between Saldanha square and Campo Pequeno, the protest covers a series of ‘demands’, beyond what would be a 7.5% increase in pensions. Among them are decent housing, a network of facilities and services to support the elderly, more mobility and a completely free State health service. As the entity’s message over social media goes: “There is no age-limit on dreams. Let’s grow older with rights and dignity!”
